Speedy mare Hidden Pearl is ready to re-discover her old winning form when she lines up in the $100,000 Rebecca Louise Summer Sprint (1000m) at Randwick on Saturday.
The Tamworth trained mare hasn’t raced since finishing last of thirteen behind Snitty Kitty in the Listed $100,000 Lightning Handicap (1050m) at Doomben on June 3 during the 2017 Brisbane Winter Carnival.
Hidden Pearl has a terrific first up record with four wins from six attempts and heads to Randwick on the weekend with a win in a 900m Tamworth barrier trial under her belt.
“She seems okay,” trainer Mark Mason told AAP.
“She won a trial at home well, ran 50.6secs, it was a good run.”
Hidden Pearl has plenty of natural speed and has won seven of her eight victories from the front and Robert Thompson no doubt will have to use some of that brilliance to cross over from the outside barrier in the field that has been reduced to seven runners with the early scratching of Fickle Folly.
The 1000m of the Summer Sprint is Hidden Pearls favourite distance with the Hidden Dragon mare collecting the winner’s cheque seven times over the short sprinting course.
Hidden Pearls is considered to be one of the main chances with Ladbrokes.com.au marking her as the $3.30 second favourite for the Summer Sprint behind the Jason Coyle trained Memes at $2.60.
Regular rider Rachel King takes the mount again on Memes who will jump from barrier five at her first run since finishing sixth to Invincible Gem in the Group 2 $200,000 Missile Stakes (1200m) at Randwick in August during the 2017 Sydney Sprint Carnival.
Memes has also shown her ability to race on the pace as she worked her way up through the classes with her latest win being when she led all of the way in an 1100m BenchMark 85 Handicap at Randwick on July 22.
On the third line of betting at $6 is the Matthew Smith trained Palazzo Pubblico who will jump from barrier six with Brenton Avdulla in the saddle.
Palazzo Publico is also resuming, not having raced since running third to Ball Of Muscle in the Listed $150,000 Absolut Stakes (1000m) at Flemington on Kennedy Oaks Day during the 2017 Melbourne Cup Carnival.
