Thunder Teddington is a name you think you’d come across whilst reading a superhero comic, but he is a hero in his own right down at Denistoun Park. Known affectionately as Teddy, he was an instant stable favourite since setting foot on Australian soil.
Arriving with Black Type European form, mainly in Hungary, there’s always been high hopes for Teddy who broke through for his maiden win yesterday as an adopted Aussie. First-up after an extended break he showed us all what he’s capable of, travelling like a steam train 3 deep without cover, he just kept winding up proving too strong for his rivals at Geelong yesterday in the Benchmark 78 event.
“This is the first time in a while that he’s raced in this grade” Trainer Jason Warren said. “He’s come here with fresh legs and he’s an exciting, progressive stayer”.
Experienced hoop Matthew Allen followed instructions to perfection on the 7yo gelding, allowing him to have plenty of galloping room and ensuring he was on the best part of the track. “He seems to have seasoned nicely after having a prep in Australia” Allen said, who has formed a formidable partnership with Warren over the years.
Warren is optimistic about where Teddy is heading, looking to elevate his rating over the coming 6 weeks with a Flemington Carnival staying race on the cards as his main target. JWR continues their hot early season form, boasting a 33% strike rate over the last calendar month.
