It’s finally Spring! The time of year that all horse racing enthusiasts look forward to and aspire to be involved in, and we’re no different…We couldn’t have asked for a better start to the 2017/18 Racing Season at JWR.
We cheered home 3 winners in the month of August and boasted a winning strike rate of 27%. We hope to continue along the same path in September, with a lot of horses due to kick off their campaigns over the coming weeks and a few classy types looking to make their mark with Spring accolades.
SPRING POTENTIAL
Every stable likes to have a headline horse and we think we’ve got ‘2’ that can make a name for themselves:
Bel Sonic overcame a lot of obstacles in his maiden win a couple of weeks ago at Geelong. He has raw ability and a blistering turn of foot and really looks like he is going places. His next challenge comes at Sandown on Wednesday where he faces off in a 1000m 3yo event, hopefully this is a stepping stone for bigger and better things to come.
Our second Spring hopeful is classy filly Tarcoola Spirit. She recorded a soft win on return at Cranbourne last Sunday, toying with her rivals and winning untouched after a tardy getaway. Her next challenge lies at Moonee Valley or Flemington in the next fortnight where she will compete in Listed company. The Stratum filly was bred next door to Denistoun Park by Tarcoola Stud Principal Ken Williams and she is undefeated in 2 starts, she is also nominated for the 1000 Guineas.
TEDDY RETURNS
7yo European import Thunder Teddington makes his racetrack return tomorrow at Geelong. The Hungarian Derby placegetter is first-up after a long layoff in a BM78 1700m event where he will be ridden by experienced hoop Matthew Allen. Sunday’s task will be well short of his pet distance, but his trials this time in suggest he might be a smokey to run a place on a wide open track like Geelong. He will be looking to recapture his form from last preparation where he placed in the Listed Bagot Hcp on New Years Day behind smart stayer Annus Mirabilis.
Best of Luck to his big team of owners!
FUTURE STAR
A fortnight ago saw the last of our young crop get broken in, and we may have saved the best til last! Our striking colt by Reliable Man out of Bacio Del Vinto rounded out his breaking preparation with a 2 week stint on course at Pakenham. His sire got his first Australian winner this week, and this athletic colt has all the right credentials to be a star in the making. There are still some shares available in him and he’s well worth a look!
