Lonhro filly Banish made it back to back wins with a come from behind win in the Group 2 $200,000 italktravel Fillies Classic (1600m) at The Valley today.
Banish was coming off a last start win at Cranbourne in restricted grade but a well timed run from Craig Williams saw the well bred filly salute at Group 2 level.
Williams settled Banish in the second half of the field and waited for the leaders to come back to him before making his move when heads were turned for home.
Banish ($7.50) proved too strong for I’ll Have A Bet ($8.50) and Touch Of Mink ($10) who both died on their runs in the drive to the line.
The $4.80 favourite Mintha faded in the staight to finish last.
Cummings said that it was good to see Banish back in the winner’s list, especially at this level.
“She is a beautiful Lonhro filly. She has had a great prep, that is her third win this preparation and she has a lot of toughness about her,” Cummings said.
“It is a great sign to see her beating the older mares a couple of times in the last few months.”
“We found a really nice Group 2 race here.”
