Caulfield trainer Mick Price believes his smart filly Seabrook in cruising under the radar in the lead up to Saturday’s Group 1 $3.5m Longines Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill.
Seabrook hasn’t been sighted since winning the Group 2 $200,000 Chandon S Sweet Embrace Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on March 3 while two top Golden Slipper Stakes fancies were on display at Rosehill last Saturday.
Ladbrokes.com.au’s $3.60 Golden Slipper Stakes favourite Sunlight led all of the way to beat the fillies in the Group 3 $175,000 Canadian Club Magic Night Stakes (1200m) while Written By, the second pick in the betting at $5, put in a similar performance against the colts and geldings, running just over half a second faster than the girls in winning the Group 3 $175,000 Café Culture + Insitu Pago Pago Stakes (1200m).
Price is happy with the progress of Seabrook since her win in the Sweet Embrace Stakes and said the Hinchinbrook filly is ready to perform at her best in the richest two year old race in the world at the weekend.
“Her work is pretty much done. I’m very happy with her,’’ Price told Racing New South Wales News Desk.
“When you have the favourite and Blue Diamond winner winning that’s going to take a big chunk of market share so there’s going to be some forgotten horses in the race.
“But she doesn’t know that and she’s thriving and I think she will run super and be finishing off strongly.’’
Seabrook has only been to the races on three occasions and prior to winning the Sweet Embrace Stakes finished fourth on debut in the $250,000 Inglis Banner at The Valley on October 28 last year and then resumed for a third to Enbihaar in the Group 2 $200,000 Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) for the fillies at Caulfield on February 10.
Seabrook is currently marked at $10 with Ladbrokes.com.au and apart from Sunlight and Written By, have three other two year olds ahead of her in the betting, the Chris Waller trained Performer at $7 and Estijaab and Santos sharing the next line of betting at $8.50.
Early betting for the 2018 Golden Slipper Stakes at Ladbrokes.com.au: $3.60 Sunlight, $5 Written By, $7 Performer, $8.50 Estijaab, Santos, $10 Seabrook, $15 Ef Troop, $17 Fiesta, Sandbar, $21 Aylmerton, $26 Oohood, $35 Enbihaar, Prairie Fire, $51 or better the rest.
