Victorian filly Aloisia is a solid second favourite in the betting for the Group 1 $500,000 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill today.

Aloisia has firmed back into $5 after easing to $6 for the Vinery Stud Stakes with Ladbrokes.com.au while the Chris Waller trained Unforgotten with new jockey Kerrin McEvoy, is the ruling $4.20 favourite in the Group 1 for the three year old fillies.
Aloisia will the last Group 1 runner for stand in trainer Aaron Purcell who will hand back the stable on Monday to Ciaron Maher who will get his trainer’s licence back after serving a six month suspension resulting from some of his horse being owned by convicted conman Peter Foster.
Purcell had immediate success when handed the reins of Maher’s huge Caulfield operation when Aloisia won the Group 1 $500,000 Schweppes Thousand Guineas (1600m) at Caulfield during the 2017 Melbourne Spring Carnival.
“Aloisia was my first Group 1 runner (only two weeks into the role), she may be my last for at least a little while so it would be a great way to finish off,” Purcell told racing.com.
“She galloped on Tuesday morning and Mark Zahra went up to Sydney for it, and he was rapt with her and fitness-wise she’s primed.”
Purcell will give jockey Mark Zahra a free rein to devise his own tactics on Aloisia who has drawn the outside barrier in the Vinery Stud Stakes field that has been reduced to thirteen runners following the scratching of one of the top fancies, the John Sargent trained Luvaluva.
“14 (original barrier) wasn’t the number I wanted to see, but she’s a horse who likes to race amongst horses competitively so there are options as to where we end up, we’ll have to let Mark work that out.”
Aloisia has been struggling to regain her Spring Carnival form at three Autumn Carnival runs and heads to the Vinery Stud Stakes against the fillies off a last start thirteenth to Grunt in the Group 1 $1m Australian Guineas (1600m) at Flemington on March 3.
On the third line of betting at $6 in the James Cummings trained Alizee who drops back to her own age groups after finishing two and a quarter lengths thirteenth against the older mares in the Group 1 $600,000 Coolmore Classic (1500m) at Rosehill a fortnight ago.
Alizee has drawn barrier nine with Brenton Avdulla taking over the reins from the suspended Glyn Schofield while Unforgotten has drawn next to her at gate eight.
