Trainer Mark Newnham and jockey Josh Parr scored a race to race double with Burning Passion winning the Group 3 $150,000 Hall Mark Stakes (1200m) at Randwick today.
The trainer – jockey combination had teamed up to take out the previous race, the BenchMark 85 Handicap, with the very promising Anatola.
Burning Passion ($5) was having his second run back from a spell and repaid his followers after he was sent out as the favourite before finishing seventh in the Group 3 $150,000 E-Group Security Star Kingdom Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill on March 31.
Parr had Burning Passion travelling sweetly up on the pace approaching the home turn and the six year old settled in for a fight down the straight with runner up Oxford Poet ($10) and the $3.40 favourite Dothraki.
The Team Snowden trained Dothraki appeared to hit the front at the 250m but Burning Pasion was able to get the upper hand in the run to the line to record a neck win over Oxford Poet set the pace and fought back in the straight to fill second place while Dothraki had to settle for third.
Today’s win was Burning Passion’s seventh win from twenty-eight starts.
