Flashy four year old Kementari can prove his credentials for The Everest with a win in the Group 2 $200,000 Mostyn Copper Group Missile Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on Saturday.
Jockey Glyn Schofield will be trying to keep a perfect record on Kementari in the Missile Stakes and said that the James Cummings trained stallion wouldn’t be out of place if he was to secure a slot in the $13m The Everest (1200m) at Randwick on October 13.
“I’d be keen to ride him anywhere,’’ Schofield told Racing New South Wales News Desk.
“He’s filled me with a lot of confidence every time I’ve ridden him so I’ll ride him wherever he goes so long as they want me.
“James (Cummings) has spoken about (The Everest) openly, he hasn’t secured himself a spot at the moment but there’s a fair way to go and things can change.
“He’d give the race a lot more panache without doubt.’’
Schofield has ridden Kementari three times for three wins during the 2018 Sydney Autumn Carnival in the Group 3 $150,000 Aquis Farm Eskimo Prince Stakes (1200m) at Warwick Farm, the Group 2 $400,000 Hobartville Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill and in the Group 1 $1m Mostyn Copper Group Randwick Guineas (1600m) at Randwick.
Kementari then took on the older gallopers with Brenton Avdulla in the saddle for a third in the Group 1 $1m The Agency George Ryder Stakes (1500m) at Rosehill and a tenth in the Group 1 $3m The Star Doncaster Mile (1600m) at Randwick.
Kementari has drawn barrier four in the final ten horse field for the Missile Stakes.
Pierata was runner up to Kementari in the Hobartville Stakes and in the Randwick Guineas and will be clashing with the Lonhro stallion again in the Missile Stakes.
James McDonald will be having his first race ride on Pierata who has drawn in the second half of the field at barrier eight.
Trainer Gary Portelli’s 2017 Golden Slipper winner She Will Reign has drawn the rails in the Missile Stakes with Kerrin McEvoy back in the saddle again after the pair combined for a win in the Group 1 $500,000 Charter Keck Cramer Moir Stakes (1000m) at The Valley during the 2017 Melbourne Spring Carnival.
She Will Reign is undefeated from four first up runs which includes the Moir Stakes win as well as her win in the $250,000 Inglis Sprint (1100m) at Warwick Farm at the beginning of her 2018 Autumn Carnival campaign.
Warwick Farm trainer Bjorn Baker will saddle two runners in the Missile Stakes, Music Magnate (Hugh Bowman, barrier 7) and Egyptian Symbol (Jason Collett, barrier 2) while the Mark Newnham trained Lanciato will jump from the outside gate with Rachel King in the saddle.
