Former West Australian trained multiple Group 1 winner Black Heart Bart looks likely to return to Perth after being allocated the top weight of 59kg for the Group 1 $1m James Boag’s Premium Railway Stakes (1600m) at Ascot on November 25.

Black Heart Bart finished fourth to the Chris Waller trained Good Prospect in the 2015 Railway Stakes when prepared by Perth trainer Vaughn Sigley before being transferred to the Darren Weir stable in Victoria.
The leading Victorian trainer has been able to win five Group 1 trophies with Black Heart Bart but his latest Spring Carnival campaign has seen the seven year old out of the winner’s stall with three placings from four starts.
The Blackfriars gelding’s best Spring run was three starts back when second to Vega Magic in the Group 1 $1m New Zealand Bloodstock Memsie Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on September 2 and then he backed that up with a third behind stablemate Humidor and Hartnell in the Group 1 $750,000 Makybe Diva Stakes (1600m) at Flemington on September 16.
At his latest effort Black Heart Bart was beaten less than two lengths when fifth to Bonneval in the Group 1 $750,000 Hyland Race Colours Underwood Stakes (1800m) at Caulfield on October 1.
Weir has given Black Heart Bart a freshen up and said that he is back in work and ready to return to the race track.
“He’s been up the farm a little while and went back down the beach yesterday and he’ll trial Tuesday morning (at Terang) and he’ll be ready to go either this Saturday or in the Railway the following week,” Weir told racing.com.
Weir has also nominated Black Heart Bart in two races at Sandown’s Zipping Classic Day meeting on Saturday, in the weight for age Group 3 $150,000 Kevin Heffernan Stakes (1300m) and in the Group 3 $150,000 Sandown Stakes (1500m) under Quality Handicap conditions.
The James Cummings trained It’s Somewhat is also well up in the weights for the Railway Stakes with 58.5kg as is the Lindsay Park trained Redkirk Warrior who has been given 58kg while Lindsey Smith’s Scales Of Justice is the highest weighted of the locals with 57.5kg.
Early betting for the Railway Stakes at Ladbrokes.com.au has Scales Of Justice and the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained Supply And Demand as the joint favourites at $6 just ahead of Black Heart Bart at $7 and Silverstream and Tom Melbourne at $9.
