The Peter And Paul Snowden trained Redzel proved to be the king of the mountain when he led all the way for Kerrin McEvoy to score consecutive wins in the $13m The Everest (1200m) at Randwick last Saturday.

A perfect front running ride from McEvoy saw Redzel skim through the heavy Randwick track to record a one and a quarter lengths win over the honest Trapeze Artist with Osborne Bulls skirting the outside fence for third spot.

Redzel won the inaugural running of The Everest twelve months ago and then went to Melbourne to win the 1200m sprint down the Flemington straight and Peter Snowden said that Australia’s number one sprinter would be following the same path this year.

“Redzel will definitely go to the Darley Classic (VRC Sprint Classic) but he’s also nominated for the Manikato Stakes and I wouldn’t rule that out yet,’’ Peter Snowden told The Daily Telegraph.

“He had a pretty tough run on a very testing track in The Everest but he has eaten up everything since the race and is nice and bright (Saturday).’’

“We are just going to soak up the next couple of weeks, I’ve got to keep telling myself this has happened again.

“To win the first Everest last year was super but to win this race a second time is incredible.’’

Redzel is on the second line of betting at $7 behind $5.50 favourite Kementari at Ladbrokes.com.au for the Group 1 $1m Ladbrokes Manikato Stakes (1200m) at The Valley on October 26 while in the VRC Sprint Classic the Snowden trained speedster is the early $6 favourite.
