Caulfield Cup winner Boom Time has settled in well in Tokyo as he prepares for the Group 1 US$5.2 million Japan Cup (2400m) at Fuchu in Tokyo in Japan on November 26.
Linsday Park’s travelling foreman Gary Fennessy has reported that Boom Time has come through his quarantine process in great shape and worked sharply at Tokyo Racecourse on Tuesday morning.
“He’s been through the quarantine process and now we’re down in Tokyo,” Fennessy told Sydney’s Sky Sports Radio.
“He had his first serious hit-out this morning on the course proper and he did it very well.”
“It was a bit of a sharp sort of gallop.”
“We only went over 1400 (metres) and ran home the last 400. But he was very sharp and keen to do it.”
Boom Time, who is prepared by the Lindsay Park Team of David and Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig, was invited by the Japan Racing Association to run in the Japan Cup after scoring an upset win in the Group 1 $3.15m BMW Caulfield Cup (2400m) at Caulfield on October 21.
The Flying Spur six year old then finished down the track when fifteenth to Rekindling in the Group 1 $6.25m Emirates Melbourne Cup (3200m) at Flemington on November 7 but Hennessy said he failed to run out the two miles and is willing to forget the run.
“He ran in the Melbourne Cup and just didn’t run the two miles,” Fennessy said.
“But it was Group One form the fortnight before (in the Caulfield Cup).
“He’s in very good order and I’d expect him to run very well.”
Boom Time has been listed as one of the outsiders of the Japan Cup field at $26 with Ladbrokes.com.au who have the local stayer Kitasan Black as the short priced $2.50 favourite to win back to back Japan Cups.
The Hisashi Shimizu trained six times Group 1 winner Kitasan Black is a proven stayer with wins up to 3200m and is coming off a last start victory in the Group 1 US$2.6m Tenno Sho (Autumn) 2000m at Tokyo in Japan on October 29.
David Hayes is searching for a second win in the race after saddling up Better Loosen Up to win the 1990 Japan Cup.
