Bunbury trained sprinter Profit Street is at long odds to get the money in the Group 1 $1m Crown Perth-Winterbottom Stakes (1200m) at Ascot in Perth on Saturday.
Despite finishing less than half a length behind Winterbottom Stakes favourite State Solicitor when fourth in the Group 3 $150,000 Colonel Reeves Stakes (1100m) at Ascot on November 18, Profit Street is listed as a $26 chance at Ladbrokes.com.au for the Perth Summer Racing Carnival’s premier sprint.
Co-trainer Peter Giadresco was impressed with Profit Street’s latest effort and is giving the six year old a genuine chance of turning the tables on the Perth’s rising sprint star State Solicitor.
“I thought he produced the run of the race,” Giadresco said.
“State Solicitor was good, but he scraped the fence while my horse was wide and I don’t think they went very hard in front which didn’t suit him.
“I think if he draws well he is a genuine chance.
“It will be a nice way to end a pretty crappy year.”
Giadresco, who trains in partnership with his son Matthew, has recovered from life threatening injuries he received in a floating accident last January and is hoping for better fortune cum Saturday in the Winterbottom Stakes.
Profit Street is the winner of nine of his twenty-four starts and is also a two times winner over the same course and distance as the Winterbottom Stakes as he worked his way up through the grades.
Profit Street’s best result was a win at Listed level during the Winter in the Listed $100,000 H.G. Bolton Sprint (1200m) at Belmont while two starts back he was only beaten a neck when second to Dainty Tess in the Group 3 $150,000 Prince Of Wales Stakes (1000m) at Ascot on November 4.
Top local jockey Brad Parnham was aboard Profit Street for his win in the H.G. Bolton Sprint and gets the ride again in the Winterbottom Stakes.
State Solicitor has been installed the $3 favourite for The Winterbottom Stakes at Ladbrokes.com.au just ahead of Lloyd Kennewell’s smart mare Viddora at $4 and the Chris Gangemi trained Rock Magic at $6.
Early betting for the 2017 Winterbottom Stakes at Ladbrokes.com.au: $3 State Solicitor, $4 Viddora, $6 Rock Magic, $7.50 Santa Ana Lane, $11 Fuhryk, $15 Dainty Tess, $17 Caipirinha, $26 Durendal, Malibu Style, Profit Street, Whispering Brook, $61 Dream Lifter, $81 The River.
