Dual Group 1 winning mare Alizee was been ruled out of Saturday’s clash with Winx in the Group 1 $500,000 Winx Stakes (1400m) at Randwick as well as the rest of the 2018 Spring Racing Carnival.
Trainer James Cummings notified Racing New South Wales Stewards that Alizee had bled following a gallop at Osborne Park this morning and she would be spelled immediately for her mandatory three months ban from racing.
“It’s a great shame, she’s such a talented mare who we had high hopes for this spring,” Cummings said.
“Unfortunately there is nothing we can do in a situation like this and she will now have a good rest and hopefully she’ll get her chance in the autumn.”
Alizee carried the famous Godolphin royal blue colours to two Group 1 victories during her three year old season and was set to resume for the Spring in the Winx Stakes at her first run since winning the Group 1 $1m Coolmore Legacy Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on day two of The Championships on April 14.
The Sepoy mare also won at Group 1 level during the 2017 Sydney Spring Carnival when she beat Champagne Cuddles and Cellargirl in the $500,000 Flight Stakes (1600m) at Randwick.
Alizee had been among the nominations for the 2018 Group 1 $5m Ladbrokes Cox Plate (2040m) at The Valley on October 27 and her withdrawal from the Spring Carnival will leave Cummings with Avilius, Mr Moonlight Magic and Kementari to fight for a spot in the weight for age championship.
Alizee will join the Team Hawkes trained Golden Slipper winner Estijaab on the sidelines after the Snitzel filly was also announced as a Spring Carnival scratching because of injury.
Alizee is the winner of five of her fourteen race starts and has earned just over $1.4 million in prizemoney.
