Thousand Guineas winner Amphitrite will now head towards the Group 1 $1m Australian Guineas (1600m) after scoring an impressive first up win in the Group 3 $160,000 The Vanity (1400m) at Flemington today.
The ex-Darren Weir trained Amphitrite was having her first Autumn Carnival run after a break for her new stable at Lindsay Park and raced up to her Spring form against the fillies under the control of Craig Williams.
Lindsay Park head trainer David Hayes said that Amphitrite will now line up against the fillies and the colts and geldings in the Australian Guineas at Flemington in a fortnight on her way hopefully to the $5m All-Star Mile (1600m) at Flemington on March 16.
Hayes, who trains in partnership with Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig, is hoping that Amphitrite ($3.90) will get enough votes to gain a spot in the final fourteen horse field of the All-Star MIle following her one length victory over the Chris Waller trained Verry Elleegant ($7).
The $3.40 favourite Fundamentalist had every chance before finishing in third spot.
“She could not have been more impressive,” David Hayes said.
“We have had her about eleven days and she arrived in great order from the Weir stable.”
“Luckily we could hold her form and heading towards the All-Star Mile now and hopefully she gets enough votes to get in via the Guineas, so it is an exciting month for her.”
Amphitrite has firmed in from $8 to $5 at Ladbrokes.com.au for the Australian Guineas and is also a shortener in the All-Star Mile, $17 into $8.
