Trainer Mike Moroney‘s stablemates Arrogant and Chapada have drawn side by side when the barriers were drawn for the 2019 Group 1 $2m Harrolds Australian Derby (2400m) at Randwick on Day One of The Championships on Saturday.

A final field of eighteen plus one emergency was declared this morning with Arrogant drawing twelve and Chapada drawing next door at thirteen while the only emergency Yulong Tavion drawing gate five.

Top Melbourne jockey Craig Williams gets the ride again on Arrogant after he was on board last start when the Ocean Park colt ran Chris Waller’s high profile colt The Autumn Sun to a head when second in the Group 1 $600,000 Sky Racing Rosehill Guineas (2000m) at Rosehill on March 23.

Chapada was also amongst the minor prizemoney in the Rosehill Guineas and ran on to fill third spot and will be ridden again by Damien Oliver.

The Murray Baker and Andrew Forsman trained Kiwi three year old Madison County was paid up as a late entry for the Australian Derby and came up with barrier eleven while his stablemate The Chosen One received the visitor’s draw at gate seventeen.

Tommy Berry rides Madison County and Blake Shinn has picked up the ride on The Chosen One.

Andrew Forsman tweeted that Madison County had pulled up well after his Rosehill Guineas second and added that the colt’s last 600m sectional was the best for the day on a heavy Rosehill track.

“Has pulled up very well and can only improve into the Australian Derby at Randwick on Saturday. Was the only horse on the day at Rosehill to come home in sub 36 seconds off what has been a very interrupted preparation,” Forsman tweeted.

The Godolphin Team will have two Australian Derby runners with trainer James Cummings to saddle up Aramayo (Tim Clark, barrier 19) and Cossetot (Glyn Schofield, barrier 3).

Melbourne trainers Ciaron Maher and David Eustace will also have two chances to win the Australian Derby with Extra Brut (Sam Clipperton, barrier 18) and Global Exchange (Kerrin McEvoy, barrier 8).
