The Group 1 $1.5m Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield in a fortnight has been scripted in for Written By after the colt scored an impressive win in the Prelude for the colts and geldings today.

Winning jockey Jordan Childs had Written By ($6) up on the pace from a wide barrier and the Grahame Begg trained colt was strong to the line to hold off the challenge of runner up Plague Stone ($4.80 favourite).

Third placegetter Native Soldier ($9.50) from the Darren Weir stable ran on late from the back to fill third spot.

Begg explained that Written By has a load of ability but has proven to be hard to train because of his bad barrier manners.

“We haven’t really been able to train the horse probably,” Begg said.

“He hasn’t haad a perfect preparation because of his barrier manners but we have got on top of him now.”

“He is pretty good once he gets in, it is just loading up. I think he is a pretty serious horse.”

“He has got great determination the horse. He is a real race horse.”

While Begg will consider running Written in the Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes, he is also keen to head back to Sydney for the Group 1 $3.5m Longines Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill on March 24.

“We will see how he pulls up and there is every likelihood (to run in the Blue Diamond Stakes) and obviously we have ambitions to going to Sydney and we will just work it out,” Begg said.

The win of Written By has been made more special with the colt racing in the family colours of black, white armbands and red cap, with Begg’s father, former top trainer Neville, among the ownership.
