Trainer Tony Gollan is banking on a steady tempo to help Silvera score another win over 1600m when he lines up in the Listed $125,000 Sky Racing Tattersall’s Mile at Eagle Farm on Saturday.
Silvera scored his second win over the metric mile with a come from behind victory in the $150,000 Rockhampton Cup at Callaghan Park and Gollan is happy with the way the grey has come through the road trip.
“I like him at the Mile. I think he is a bright horse, he is fresh, he handled the travelling up to Rocky and back really well and he just looks a really bright horse,” Gollan said.
“I think he is going to get a really good run here.”
“It looks a race with minimal tempo and I think he is very well weighted, drops half a kilo for winning a $150,000 race in Rocky.”
“And that wasn’t an ordinary race. The horses in that race were legitimate city Saturday grade horses that finished around him. So I think he is on the improve.”
Silvera handled the heavy track conditions with ease in the Rockhampton Cap and Gollan has no concerns about the gelding getting back on top of the ground at Eagle Farm which has been rated a Good 4 on race eve.
“He does like a bit of cut in the ground. This track is not rock hard and he should handle this sort of ground,” Gollan said.
“I think he will get a really good run maybe in the second or third pair here. As long as he gets travelling in a good rhythm and he will give his backers a very good sight.”
Silvera has drawn nicely at barrier two in the thirteen horse Tattersall’s Mile field with Jim Byrne replacing Rockhampton Cup winning jockey Brad Stewart.
Gollan will also saddle up Hectopascal who has drawn awkwardly at gate eleven in the Tattersall’s Mile with apprentice Baylee Nothdurft in the saddle.
The premiership winning trainer is happy to see Hectopascal back on a good racing surface after finishing fourth on a heavy track in a Doomben Class 6 but has a worry about the wide barrier.
“Her record tells you that she will be better on top of the ground,” Gollan said.
“She can handle soft but I don’t think see handles heavy.”
“This is a better class race and I don’t like where she has drawn. I think we will have to be more conservative on her early, get back and get a bit of cover.”
“I think she is better when she can be in the third pair and my worry is where she gets in the run.”
Silvera heads the betting at Ladbrokes.com.au for the Tattersall’s Mile at $3.30 ahead of market mover Magnufighter at $4.50 and the Ipswich Cup and Mackay Cup winner Bergarec at $5.50 while Hectopascal is marked as a $21 chance.
