Foxy’s Star and Strategic Force both broke their maiden status at Warrnambool yesterday in impressive style.
Foxy’s Star was the first of the two maidens to get the win on the board.
Ridden by Declan Bates, Foxy’s Star had to absorb some early pressure up front. He travelled well, gave a good kick at the top of the straight and was very strong to the line.
He was very well educated for his debut run and it was great to see him carry his good trial form and gallops to the races.
Strategic Force debuting as a 5yo had plenty of support in the market.
Jumping from an awkward barrier, he seemed to have an OK spot in transit. Dean Yendall didn’t want to have the tear away leader too far out of his sight.
At the top of the straight he peeled out 4 wide to set chase after the leader Ruby Lil and at the 200m mark Strategic Force quickly had the race in his keeping.
It was a great thrill for the breeder Owen Pettingil who had this horse sitting in his paddock before deciding to give him a try. Some local owners were lucky enough to join in as part of the ownership group and they look as though they are in for some fun times ahead.
Congratulations to both sets of winning owners.
We are very thankful for the patience they have shown with these two horses and they now look as though they will reap the awards.
