Group 1 placed mare Fasika’s early Spring form will determine if she puts herself into contention to secure a slot in the 2020 $15m The Everest (1200m) at Randwick on October 17.
Fasika proved that she is up to top level with a second in the Group 1 $480,000 Schweppes All Aged Stakes (1400m) at Randwick at the end of the 2020 Sydney Autumn Carnival.
Trainer Joe Pride then sent Fasika for a well-deserved break and the Warwick Farm mentor has reported that the rising five year old mare has returned to the stable in fine order.
“She is going super,” Pride told Racenet.
Fasika is not far off having her first trial this preparation and Pride has selected the Group 2 $200,000 Sheraco Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill on September 12 as the mare’s Spring Carnival springboard.
“She will trial on the August 7 and will have a couple of trials and then you will probably see her pop up in the Sheraco,” Pride said.
“I am happy with the way she has come back in and she is ready to go to the next level now.”
Only two slots for The Everest have been secured with the Chris Waller trained Nature Strip to run for TAB and Les Bridge’s Classique Legend to represent Bon Ho which leaves plenty of slot holders available for Fasika to impress.
Early betting at Ladbrokes.com.au for The Everest has Fasika marked at $51 while multiple Group 1 winner Nature Strip is the dominant $3.80 favourite.
Nature Strip finished fourth behind his stablemate Yes Yes Yes in last year’s The Everest but has saluted at Group 1 level on four occasions, including his last start win in the Group 1 $1.25m T J Smith Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on Day One Of The Championships during the 2020 Sydney Autumn Carnival.
