Dual Group 1 winner Global Glamour will head the Gai Waterhouse – Adrian Bott team heading to the 2018 Magic Millions Carnival at the Gold Coast in January.
The Waterhouse-Bott combination were crowned the leading trainers over the just completed 2017 four day Melbourne Cup Carnival at Flemington with five winners, including the win of Pinot in the Group 1 $1m Kennedy Oaks (2500m).
Global Glamour had a mixed Melbourne Spring Carnival and after scoring a tough first up win in the Group 2 $200,000 Schweppes Tristarc Stakes (1400m) at Caulfield on October 21 failed to figure in the finish at her next start when ninth to Shoals in the Group 1 $500,000 Myer Classic (1600m) at Flemington on November 4.
The Star Witness four year old mare will return to the Gold Coast in January to run in the $1m Magic Millions Fillies and Mares (1300m) after finishing second to Flying Jess this year in the $2m Gold Coast Magic Millions 3yo Guineas (1400m).
“That syndicate of ladies love racing her (Global Glamour), they will be all there on the Gold Coast, so what better way to finish off the week than having a runner for the 40 women,” Bott told The Courier-Mail.
“She has been up there before and performed nicely. She will have a quick turnaround from the Melbourne carnival, she pulled up great and we will head up that way.”
“We want to get ourselves a nice base, be it Brisbane or the Gold Coast. We have five or six horses we have pencilled in to target that Magic Millions race day.”
“It’s a fantastic time of year to be up there, there’s some fantastic prizemoney on offer. They have really boosted this carnival and it has worked nicely.”
Waterhouse has won the Magic Millions showpiece, the $2m Magic Millions 2yo Classic (1200m) on four occasions before teaming up with Bott, with Assertive Lad (2000), Excellerator (2001), Dance Hero (2004) and Driefontein (2012) and co-trainer Bott said that the stable had several two year olds ready to trial that were likely to measure up for the 2018 Magic Millions Carnival.
“We have a couple of nice two-year-olds set to trial in the next week or two,” Bott said.
“They are the ones we need to get up to the Magic Millions and get qualified. We would certainly like to get one up there.
“We have a couple in the pipeline that are ready to trial and hopefully they can take the right steps over the next four to six weeks and we will see them at the races and hopefully heading up north.”
