The JWR team is ramping up for a jampacked Cup Week with 10 runners over the next 5 days.
For what seemed a quiet month for the JWR team with 2 winners (Savaland & Snows Bro), we managed a 53% place strikerate with many horses running well and looking to salute next time out.
The week is headlined by smart 3yo Filly Tarcoola Spirit who flies the flag for the stable at Headquarters. She lines up on Cup Day in the Lexus Hybrid Plate over 1400m. She ran an eye-catching 2nd to Blondie in the William Crockett at Moonee Valley last week and Tuesday’s race is a natural stepping stone after attacking the line so strongly. Jockey Ben Melham hops back on after winning on her first up and will be an advantage as he has a great rapport with her as she tackles the famous track on their biggest day of the year.
After a failed campaign in Hong Kong, Raghu steps out for the first time under the JWR banner in the Ladbrokes Peninsula Cup at Mornington tomorrow. The 5yo son of Showcasing who maintained a great record as a 3yo in NZ, winner of the Karaka 3yo Mile and placed in NZ Derby looks to reproduce this form for his debut in Oz. He resumes in an intimate affair of only 6 runners but should be up to the task with plenty of groundwork gone into him after his long layoff from racing.
