It’s a hectic time for most at this time of year, especially for the JWR team who are ramping up for a Christmas Holiday assault on racing venues throughout the state. We kicked off proceedings last night with 3yo Pins filly My Shu Mai who ran a gallant second in Race 2 behind what looks like a progressive type.
We are headlined today by very talented 3yo’s Kardashing & Bel Sonic. Kardashing is looking to salute following two very good runs this preparation, she looks perfectly placed to get some extra money in the kitty with the Vobis Bonuses on offer. The daughter of Redoute’s Choice has already gained Black Type status as a 2yo and hopefully she has a class edge on her rivals today.
Bel Sonic is using todays Vobis Gold Carat as a stepping stone to bigger riches in the New Year as he targets the Magic Millions 3yo Guineas. He’s drawn awkwardly today in a small field and it will be up to multiple G1 winning jockey Ben Melham to sum up the race in the early stages. We haven’t seen the best of this horse yet, and with natural improvement from his first –up win he’ll be looking to put his rivals to shame today.
At Kyneton we have Exceed ‘n’ Excel mare Could It Be Magic and she steps up to 1400m for this first time. She is rock hard fit and the race looks ideal for her to break her maiden status. She’s accompanied at the meeting by stablemate Smooth Celebration who returns to the racetrack after a freshen-up. She looks well placed to make her mark but today’s assignment is well short of what we think is her optimum distance.
Tomorrow at Werribee we produce a 3yo filly by Smart Missile in Docarocket. She has been showing positive signs at home and tomorrow’s race looks like an ideal starting point as she has plenty of scope for improvement.
And finally, if we’re not happy with what Santa has left us under the tree on Xmas Day we’re confident we can make up for it with Star Silk on Boxing Day at Geelong. Although disappointing in his last outing, we’re confident he can return to the winners stall coming back in grade.
Best Wishes for the Festive Period and hope you back a winner!
