A return to the Gold Coast for the 2018 Magic Millions 2YO Classic next month could be on the cards for smart filly Katy’s Daughter should she salute at the track this weekend.

The Steven O’Dea-trained daughter of dual Group 1 winner Epaulette hails from Brisbane and heads to the Coast on Saturday looking to break her maiden status in the $60,000 Aquis Farm Ladies Day QTIS Two-Years-Old Handicap (900m).
Success in the sprint should be enough to earn Katy’s Daughter a spot in the Restricted Listed $2 million Magic Millions 2YO Classic (1200m) back at the Gold Coast track on January 13.
O’Dea already has confirmed representational in the lucrative Gold Coast Magic Millions 2YO Classic field this summer in the form of his Not A Single Doubt filly Singular Sensation.
She is a winner of both of her career starts to date including an impressive three length effort on a Heavy (10) Doomben track over 1050m from November 18.
Singular Sensation currently sits as a $21 chance in the all-in Magic Millions 2YO Classic odds for January at Ladbrokes.com.au, while her stablemate Katy’s Daughter is only considered a $101 roughie.
That triple-figure quote could firm should O’Dea’s untapped runner salute on Saturday and move up from her current No. 20 position in the Magic Millions 2YO Classic order of entry.
On debut at Doomben on December 2, Katy’s Daughter and jockey Paul Hammersley finished just over three lengths back for second behind the Tony Sears-trained Toowoomba galloper Ardoyne Road.
O’Dea formerly trained out of Toowoomba before his move to Eagle Farm in 2009 and his first Brisbane stakes winner was in fact Katy’s Daughter’s dam Kiss Me Katy.
Retiring with $168,350 in prize money from 14 starts that netted four victories, Kiss Me Katy was also competitive in Sydney during the spring of 2009 including her third in the Group 3 San Domenico Stakes (1000m) at Royal Randwick that year.
Now O’Dea is hoping to see more of the same from her progeny Katy’s Daughter whose owners are eligible for the ladies Magic Millions bonus next month being a women’s only syndication.
On Saturday Hammersley retains the ride on Katy’s Daughter who is drawn barrier five in the nine-starter field of juveniles.
The only non-maiden in the mix is the Les Ross-trained Spirit Of Boom filly Holdin’ My Own who comes off a win at the track / distance from December 9.
Former star Queensland sprinter Spirit Of Boom is enjoying a killer career as a stallion this summer including producing the current Magic Millions 2YO Classic favourite Ef Troop.
Tony Gollan’s gelding is a $4.80 fancy for the $2 million feature after winning his opening two career starts including the over five length romp home in the Listed Phelan Ready Stakes (1100m) at Doomben last weekend.
