Doomben Cup winner Kenedna claimed back to back Brisbane Winter Carnival feature race wins with a dominant display in the Group 2 $400,000 Bundaberg Rum P.J. O’Shea Stakes (2200m) at Doomben today.

Kenedna was able to win her third race from her last four starts after a successful Sydney Autumn Carnival that saw her win the Group 1 $1m Coolmore Legacy Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on Day Two of The Championship on April 13 before heading to Queensland to win the Group 1 $700,000 Doomben Cup (2000m) at Doomben a fortnight ago.
Johnny Allen was aboard Kenedna for her win in the Doomben Cup and produced another top shelf ride to win the weight for age P.J. O’Shea Stakes for co-trainers Ciaron Maher and David Eustace.
Allen settled Kenedna ($3.80) midfield and brought her with a well timed run to secure a length and three quarter lengths victory over the consistent Sixties Groove ($3.60 favourite) with the three year old filly Red Edit ($31) running a mighty race to claim third position.
“She loves a bit of sun on her back. She is in great order, did a great job,” Maher said.
“Johnny Allen is flying and I love coming here.”
Kenedna will now spell in Queensland before heading back to Maher’s and Eustace’s Victorian base to prepare for the 2019 Spring Carnival.
“We will target something in the Spring and get her ready for that,” Maher said.
“Maybe a Cox Plate, maybe a Caulfield Cup. We will just let the dust settle and give her a bit of time in the sun here and get her back down there when it warms up a bit.”
