Surprise winner Kiamichi has earned herself a spot in next week’s Golden Slipper with an all the way win in the Group 3 $175,000 Harrolds Magic Night Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill today.
Stable representative Darren Beadman said that the The Godolphin Team will make a decision over the weekend if Kiamichi joins their growing list of their two year olds that will take their place in the Group 1 $3.5m Longines Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill in a week’s time.
“It was a very positive win, the way that she did it both ends. She didn’t get much of a breather through the race and she ticked another box, she can handle the ground. It’s a wonderful position to be in, to have the selection of horses that we have got for the Slipper,” Beadman said.
“She makes her own luck, obviously if Godolphin do head that way with her she won’t have to be doing much.”
The Godolphin Team of juveniles prepared by James Cummings is firing on all cylinders and the royal blue colours figured prominently in the finish of the Magic Night Stakes with Athiri ($4.40 favourite) holding on for third place just ahead of her stablemate Amercement ($20) in fourth spot.
Splitting the Cummings trained trio in second position was the John Sargent trained outsider Crystal Falls ($51).
Kiamichi was always at double figures odds in the betting and defied her $21 quote to plough through the mud for Damian Lane to record an all the way win with one and a quarter lengths margin to the fast finishing Crystal Falls.
