Kiwi fillies have won the last two runnings of the Group 1 $1m James Boag’s Premium Australian Oaks (2400m) at Randwick on day two of The Championships and again have a strong presence this year after first acceptances were taken this week.

Cambridge trainer Stephen Marsh won the 2016 Australian Oaks with Sofia Rosa while New Zealand training legend Murray Baker together with his co-trainer Andrew Forsman won the filly’s classic last year with Bonneval.

Baker and Forsman have two fillies, Marcellina and Milseain, among the sixty-four first acceptances for the 2018 Australian Oaks while Marsh has only one in the Pins filly Mark Two.

Ruakaka trainers Donna Logan and Chris Gibbs have accepted with the current Australian Oaks favourite Danzdanzdance who heads the market order at $7 at Ladbrokes.com.au.

The Mastercraftsman filly is the winner of one of her five starts in New Zealand but she showed plenty of staying ability with a last start third to Vin De Dance in the Group 1 NZ$1m NZ Derby (2400m) at Ellerslie in New Zealand on March 3.

The Michael and Matthew Pitman trained Savvy Coup is also well up in the betting at $11 and also showed good staying potential with a win in the Group 3 NZZ$70,000 Little Avondale Lowland Stakes (2100m) at Hastings on March 1.

Several other Kiwi fillies among the first acceptances for the Australian Oaks are Hasahalo, Contessa Vanessa, Treasure and Belle Du Nord.

The John Sargent trained Luvaluva is the shortest priced Australian trained filly at $8 with Ladbrokes.com.au while her stablemates Maria Victoria and Golden Lily are rated as 100-1 shots.

Kennedy Oaks runner up Bring Me Roses is a first acceptor for the Australian Oaks and the Tony McEvoy trained filly is on the third line of betting at $10 just ahead of Aloisia ($11) who finished out of a place in the fillies classic during the 2017 Melbourne Cup Carnival.

As well as Aloisia, trainer Aaron Purcell has also included Inspirante in the first acceptances for the 2018 Australian Oaks.

The final acceptances for the 2018 Australian Oaks are due on Tuesday, April 10.
