Leading Newcastle trainer Kris Lees has sorted out his jockeys for his three runners in the Group 1 $600,000 Coolmore Classic (1500m) at Rosehill on Saturday.
Kerrin McEvoy will be the new rider on last Friday’s Newcastle Newmarket winner Princess Posh while the mare’s winning jockey Brenton Avdulla will be on her stablemate, three year old filly El Dorado Dreaming.
Invincible Gem finished third to Princess Posh in the Group 3 $160,000 Newcastle Newmarket Handicap (1400m) at Newcastle and Jason Collett retains the mount in the Coolmore Classic.
Lees is looking forward to seeing the two mares and the filly performing at their best in Group 1 company.
“All three are in great order, and going into the race in good form,” Less told Racing New South Wales News Desk.
“Princess Posh and Invincible Gem have come through the Newmarket without any problems, and El Dorado Dreaming has trained on well since her good third in the Surround Stakes (1400m Group 1) at Randwick last Saturday week.”
El Dorado Dreaming has had success at Group 1 level during her two year old year under the care of trainer Ben Smith when she stormed home from the back to cause an upset win at huge double figure odds in the Group 1 $1m Inglis Sires’ (1400m) at Randwick during the 2018 Sydney Autumn Carnival.
Invincible Gem has been placed twice in Group 1 company for a second to Inference in the 2017 Group 1 $1m Girvan Waugh Randwick Guineas (1600m) at Randwick as well as running third to Happy Clapper in the Group 1 $500,000 Bisley Workwear Canterbury Stakes (1300m) at Randwick twelve months ago.
Princess Posh has won twice at Group 3 level and will be stepping up to Group 1 class for the first time in the Coolmore Classic.
El Dorado Dreaming is the most fancied of the Lees trio in the Coolmore Classic betting at Ladbrokes.com.au at $12 ahead of Invincible Gem at $26 and Princess Posh at $34 while the Chris Waller trained I Am Serious sits at the top of the market order at $5.
