In-form mares Gee Gee Double Gee and Life On The Wire are set clash in the Group 3 $150,000 Carlton Draught Bow Mistress Trophy (1200m) at Hobart on Friday.
The Leon, Dean and Trent Wells trained Gee Gee Double Dee and Scott Brunton’s Life On The Wire are among the final field of twelve in the weight for age feature race for the fillies and mares on Tasmanian Derby Race Day.
Sigrid Carr takes the mount again on Gee Gee Double Dee who draw barrier seven with the four year old mare chasing her fourth win on the trot following a hat trick of wins at Hobart, including one over this course and distance three starts back followed by two over 1100m.
Life On The Wire, who has drawn awkwardly at barrier ten, is also racing in the best forme of her career with wins from her last four starts, the last two at Sandown over 1400m, with last start winning jockey David Pires retaining the mount in the Bow Mistress Trophy.
Trainer Scott Brunton has given Like On The Wire a freshen up since her December 30 Sandown win and she will be right to tackle the 1200m on Friday.
“She’ll have 10 days off at Tony Carter-Smith’s property and then she’ll be getting ready for the Bow Mistress at Hobart,” Brunton said after her latest win at Sandown.
“It’s over 1200m so we’ll have to freshen her right up for it.
“She’s a mare that’s really starting to put it together now.”
Pires wiill be desperate for another win on the four year old chestnut mare to help pay his $2000 fine for breaching the whip rule on his winning ride at Sandown.
Brunton will also saddle up Step The Pedal who has drawn barrier eight with Bulent Muhcu taking the ride again.
Step The Pedal, who is a four times winner over this course and distance, will be fitter for one run back from a spell when fourth behind Gee Gee Double Gee with Muhcu aboard in an 1100m Fillies and Mares Plate at Hobart on January 28.
Consistent performer Galeocerdo has four wins and two placings from her last six starts and the speedy mare should jump straight to the front from barrier one with Troy Baker taking over the reins from Brendon McCoull.
Early betting for the Bow Mistress Trophy at Ladbrokes.com.au has Life On The Wire the $2.70 favourite just ahead of Gee Gee Double Gee at $3.50 with Gogo Grace on the third line of betting at $7.
