Blue Diamond Stakes winner Lyre was impressive in winning a Randwick barrier trial this morning in the lead up to the Group 1 $3.5m Longines Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill on March 23.
Melbourne jockey Luke Currie was re-united with Lyre in the Randwick trial after the pair combined to win the Group 1 $1.5m Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on February 23.
Currie had Lyre out of trouble in a three wide position in the early stages of the 1050m trial and after entering the straight, he gave the Anthony Freedman trained filly a push to the line to record a two length win.
The Freedman camp was happy with the hit out and reported on twitter that Currie was also happy with the trial.
“Blue Diamond winner Lyre trialled nicely this morning over 1000 metres at Randwick in preparation for next Saturday’s Group 1 Golden Slipper. Luke Currie rode the filly and was very positive in his feedback. 9 days to go!” Freedman Racing tweeted.
Lyre made it three wins from only four race starts when she stormed home to win the Blue Diamonds Stakes and is well in contention in the betting for the Golden Slipper at $10 with Ladbrokes.com.au.
The Godolphin owned Lyre will now join her James Cummings trained Godolphin juveniles who are set to take their place in the world’s richest two year old race and dominate the Golden Slipper betting with now four of the top five in the betting.
The Chris Waller trained Yes Yes Yes sits at the top of the market order at $6 ahead of the Cummings trained Tenley at $6.50, Microphone at $7.50 and Exhilarates at $9 and then Lyre at $10.
