Queensland Derby winner Mr Quickie has been elevated to the top of the betting for the 2019 Group 1 $5.15m Stella Artois Caulfield Cup (2400m) at Caulfield on October 19 after first acceptances were taken.
Mr Quickie showed doing the Brisbane Winter Carnival that he is a stayer of the future with his tough win in the Group 2 $350,000 Ascot Green Queensland Guineas (1600m) at Eagle Farm and now heads the Caulfield Cup market at $8 with Ladbrokes.com.au.
Sydney’s premier trainer Chris Waller is searching for his first win in the Caulfield Cup and unearthed a couple of strong prospects over the weekend with his European imports Brimham Rocks and Finche still among the seventy- four first accepatnces.
Finche is on the third line of betting at $14 after his win in the Group 3 $160,000 The Agency Real Estate Kingston Town Stakes (2000m) at Randwick while Brimham Rocks ($31) is guaranteed a start after being exempt from the ballot for his win in the Group 3 $160,000 East Malvern Bendigo Bank MRC Foundation Cup (Naturalism Stakes) (2000m) at Caulfield on the weekend.
2019 Cox Plate equal favourite Avilius is also a first acceptor for the Caulfield Cup along with the James Cummings trained stablemate, the veteran warhorse Hartnell.
The Japanese stayer Mer De Glace leads the international contingent which also includes the English stayer Raheen House.
Second acceptances for the 2019 Caulfield Cup will be taken at 12 noon (AEST) on Tuesday 8 October.
