Wet track specialist Niccanova will get his chance to find the winner’s stall again in the Listed $175,000 Glasshouse Handicap (1400m) at the Sunshine Coast on Saturday.
The Sunshine Coast track has been rated a Heavy 10 on Friday morning after receiving 126mm in the last seven days and trainer Steve Tregea said that Niccanova will relish the wet conditions.
“The track is rated well in the heavy range and even with the forecast fine Saturday it will still be rain-affected,” Tregea told AAP.
“He is two wins from two starts on heavy tracks and three wins from four starts on soft going.”
“Niccanova didn’t have much luck when beaten in the Wayne Wilson Mile last start and coming back to 1400 metres won’t hurt him.”
Niccanova has two wins from two starts on a heavy rated track and three from four on a soft track and is coming off a last start tenth to Vinland in the Listed $125,000 The Wayne Wilson (1600m) at Eagle Farm on June 8 and the five year old will jump from gate six with regular rider James Orman in the saddle again.
The five year old is a four times winner over 1400m as well as having one win from one start at the Sunshine Coast but hasn’t found the winner’s stall since his victory in the Listed $125,000 Recognition Stakes (1350m) at Doomben last November.
Niccanova is a significant market mover at Ladbrokes.com.au and after opening at $16, has firmed in the betting to $8.50 for the Glasshouse Handicap following the early scratching of the James Cummings trained Organza who was also well in contention in the betting but instead will take her place in the Listed $150,000 Civic Stakes (1350m) at Rosehill on Saturday. .
The Richard Laming trained Jamaican Rain is chasing back to back wins in the Glasshouse Handicap and is the clear favourite at $2.70 ahead of Chapter And Verse at $6.50 and Platinum Angel at $8.
