Millionaire mare Outback Barbie has had a perfect preparation for her 2020 Queensland Winter Carnival pipe opener in the Group 3 $125,000 BRC Sprint (1200m) at Doomben on Saturday.

Outback Barbie will be having her first start back since winning the $1m Racing Queensland Magic Millions QTIS Open (1300m) at the Gold Coast in January and Brisbane’s premiership winning trainer Tony Gollan can’t fault her preparation.
“Her preparation has been faultless, she has come up with a good gate and the track and distance that she likes,” Gollan said.
“She ticks a lot of boxes Saturday.”
“She presents well first up and it looks a really good race.”
“Ripping little mare. Comes to hand beautifully first up. Had a perfect prep with her.”
Outback Barbie had been originally scheduled to run first up in the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 which was to be run this Saturday but with the revamped Queensland Winter Carnival program because of the coronavirius crisis, the Group 1 sprint was scraped and the BRC Sprint was repositioned to this weekend.
Outback Barbie scored a nice win in 1000m Doomben barrier trial on April 21 and Gollan said the mare has done well since a solid hit out on Tuesday morning.
“The trial is what I wanted to see. I haven’t had her back to the trials since but she had a nice gallop on Tuesday,” Gollan said.
“This was always going to be her kick off point this date so I haven’t had to change anything with her, this was going to be the Doomben 10,000,” Gollan said.
“Everything has gone along perfect.”
Gollan said drawing barrier three in the ten horse BRC Sprint field was a bonus and expects Outback Barbie to get a nice run with Jim Byrne back in the saddle.
“I was really keen on drawing a good gate with her as barriers are vitally important in these sorts of races and she came up with a really good marble, gate three,” Gollan said.
“She is going to get a beautiful run here. No matter what happens in front of her, provided she steps away well. Jimmy Byrne knows her well, and it is good to have him back on board.”
“She is going to be in that second or third pair, depending on what goes on with the speed in front.”
“You can imagine that she is going to get a beautiful run, she will present at the right time.”
Outback Barbie has been a firmer in the betting at Ladbrokes.com.au since the final BRC Sprint field was released on Wednesday, shortening up from $7 to be well in contention at $5 behind the $3.70 favourite Kementari and her stablemate Vega One at $3.80.
Vega One has had one run back from break for a fourth in a 1000m Sunshine Coast Handicap but was out of luck at the barrier draw, coming up with the outside gate with apprentice Baylee Nothdurft taking the ride again.
