Trainer Peter Snowden said that his champion sprinter Redzel will be out to put the pressure on super mare Winx when the two headline acts clash again in a 1000m Rosehill barrier on Monday.

The Chris Waller trained Winx and Team Snowden’s Redzel are two of ten runners to line up in the first barrier trial scheduled to start at 8:15am Sydney time.
Winx and Redzel are well into their preparations for a return to the race track for the 2018 Autumn Carnivals and the world’s best racehorse on turf and the country’s number one rated sprinter faced off in a 900m trial at Rosehill on January 22 where neither was asked for a supreme effort.
Winx was given a quiet trial by Hugh Bowman and coasted to the line to finish sixth while Josh Parr allowed Redzel to show his customary early speed before being eased down over the concluding stages.
“I didn’t ask her (Winx) to do a great deal, it was pretty much a morning out for her,’’ Bowman told Racing New South Wales News.
Redzel is scheduled to resume in the Group 1 $750,000 Black Caviar Lightning (1000m) at Flemington on February 17 and Snowden, who trains in partnership with his son Paul, said that Redzel will be a more serious hit out on Monday.
“Redzel has come through the first trial well,” Peter Snowden said.
“We gave him a quiet time there but he’s since worked really well and is good order.”
“We’ll give him more of a click up this trial to bring him on a bit. That will put him in good stead for the Lightning.”
Kerrin McEvoy will be re-united with Redzel in Monday’s barrier trial after being unavailable two weeks ago while recovering from surgery to repair a broken finger he sustained in an incident on the way to the barriers at the Randwick meeting on December 16.
Redzel is the winner of his last six starts with McEvoy in the saddle for four of them, which included his history making victory in the inaugural running of the $10m The Everest (1200m) at Randwick on October 14 followed by his last start win in the Group 1 $1m Darley Classic (1200m) down the Flemington straight on the last day of the 2017 four day Melbourne Cup Carnival.
Trainer Chris Waller has pencilled in the Group 2 $250,000 Apollo Stakes (1400m) Randwick on February 17 as Winx’s return for her 2018 Autumn Carnival campaign, the same race the triple Cox Plate winner has won at the beginning of her 2016 and 2017 Autumn Campaigns.
