Unbeaten filly Tenley has jumped to the top of the Golden Slipper betting after scoring a dominant win in the Group 2 $300,000 Astus Australia Reisling Stakes (1200m) at Randwick today.
The Godolphin Team of two year olds have a strong grip on the Group 1 $3.5m Longines Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill on March 23 and Tenley is now the equal $6 favourite with her stablemate Microphone with Ladbrokes.com.au.
The Resiling Stakes runner up and stablemate to the winner Exhilarates is also prominent in Golden Slipper betting at $8.
Tenley ($3.50 favourite) made it three wins from three starts when James McDonald called on the Medaglia D’Oro filly to stretch out down the middle of the track after settling in the second half of the field in the early stages of the Reisling Stakes.
Kerrin McEvoy had Exhilarates ($4.40) travelling in the first four and she also found the line strongly while the Queensland filly Vincere Volare ($7) stuck on gamely for third after sharing the lead.
Trainer James Cummings holds great admiration for Tenley who he said has just continued to improve since coming back into the stable for her Golden Slipper campaign.
“She has just improved out of sight like you would not believe. Since she has gotten to the stable she has just been flying. She hasn’t let us down and improved and improved. The bottom that we saw to her there is of a pretty serious filly,” Cummings said.
Cummings was also pleased with the run of Exhilarates who was having her first run since winning the $2m The Star Gold Coast Magic Millions 2yo Classic (1200m) at the Gold Coast on January 12.
“Very very good off a good break. Having not raced since 12 January it is perfect for her. She has a little touch of the Capitalist about her two weeks out from the Slipper ready to bounce back to her very best,” Cummings said.
