Hugh Bowman settled Seabrook ($7.50) near the tail of the field from an outside barrier but the Mick Price trained filly was able to overhaul the rest of the field in the straight to score an impressive half a length win over the $4.40 favourite Fiesta.

Third placegetter Into The Abyss ($19) raced on the speed and battled on well over the concluding stages to hold onto third spot.

Seabrook has raced twice in Melbourne before heading to Sydney and came off the back of a last start third to Enbihaar in the Group 2 $200,000 Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Prelude (1100m) for the fillies at Caulfield on February 10.

Bowman let Seabrook settle near the tale of the field and followed Fiesta into the race rounding the home turn.

Bowman then eased the Hinchinbrook filly out around the heels of Fiesta and she stretched out nicely and gained the lead with 50m to go.

Bowman said that it was a tough win by the filly and he expected further improvement in the lead up to the Group 1 $3.5m Longines Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill on March 24.

“She had to do it the hard way from an awkward draw and full credit to her and the team for preparing her so well,” Bowman said.

“I think she will improve a lot for the experience of running here. Conditions are quite testing here this afternoon with a strong head wind which makes it hard going and there is a good bit of moisture in the ground.”

“It is testing conditions. She had to do it hard, she was tough late.”
