Tulloch Lodge trainers Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott continued their recent Group 1 winning ways when Shout The Bar led all of the way to win the Group 1 $500,000 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill today.
A clever front running ride from Adam Hyerominus saw the young jockey claim his first Group 1 winning trophy and is doing collected a mountain of praise from co-trainer Adrian Bott.
“It has been fantastic. I am so happy for everyone involved, the team behind us and the owners that have given us so much support,” Bott said.
“Everyone has worked hard over this period to get these results and none more so than Adam Hyeronimus. I am very happy for him. It’s his first Group 1. He puts in a lot of hard yards and he did a fantastic job on this filly all of the way through. Particularly today, he kept his cool and got the right run while everyone was sorting their positions behind him.”
“You like to reward everyone who has been loyal to you and in there doing the hard yards. As I said, there is no one more hard working than Adam (Hyeronimus). He has been there for a long time and at times has had to forego certain opportunities. I am glad he has been able to stick with this particular filly. He has had a good association with her from the outset and he has been rewarded so I’m very happy for him.”
Shout The Bar ($15) was only having her fourth race start and was coming off a last start second in the Group 3 $200,000 Kembla Grange Classic (1600m) at Kembla Grange on March 3 but showed tremendous resilience to hold out the more seasoned three year old fillies.
The Not A Single Doubt filly looked beaten many times in the straight but under the hard riding of Hyeronimus, she was able to hold off all the challenges to record a long neck win over the classy Kiwi filly Probabeel ($4.80).
The Chris Waller trained outsider Nudge ($26) ran a mighty race to claim third spot while her stablemate and odds on favourite Funstar finished in fourth position and racing in the leading division for most of the way.
“It’s been an amazing progression from her,” Bott said.
“She has shown us plenty of ability this campaign. Her class shone through over the shorter trips, we thought she was very vulnerable early days but she surprised us over those 1100m races, she was just doing it on sheer class and talent.”
“We were looking forward to stepping her up to a trip today which we always thought she was always looking for. It was good to see her come through.”
Waterhouse and Bott had also saddled up Con Te Partiro to win the Group 1 $600,000 Coolmore Classic (1500m) at Rosehill on March 14 as well as Farnan to win the Group 1 $3.5m Longines Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill last Saturday.
Shout The Bar has firmed in dramatically at Ladbrokes.com.au from $51 to be the second favourite at $4.80 for the Group 1 $1m Australian Oaks (2400m) at Randwick on Day Two of the Championships on April 11.
