Former Western Australian trained Trap For Fools will return to Perth to contest the Group 1 $1m Magic Millions Kingston Town Classic (1800m) at Ascot on December 9.
Trap For Fools was sent straight to the spelling paddock following his all the way win in the Group 1 $2m Seppelt Mackinnon Stakes (2000m) at Flemington last Saturday but trainer Jarrod McLean will now put his Group 1 winner on the plane to Perth on Sunday.
“He’s been in the paddock since winning the Mackinnon,” McLean told racing.com..
“It makes sense to go back to Perth. The Kingston Town is a $1 million race and he’d start close to favourite.”
Trap For Fools was beaten less than two lengths when fifth to Winx in the Group 1 $500,000 Seppelt Turnbull Stakes (2000m) at Flemington on October 6 but was then denied a spot in the Group 1 $5m Ladbrokes Cox Plate (2040m) at The Valley on October 27 when the Moonee Valley Racing Club committee deemed him not up to the standard to compete in the Weight For Age Championship.
McLean then ran Trap For Fools in the Group 2 $500,000 McCafe Moonee Valley Gold Cup (2500m) on Cox Plate Day for a second to Ventura Storm before heading to Flemington to win the Mackinnon Stakes.
Trap For Fools kicked off his racing career in Perth under the care of trainer Lindsey Smith and found the winner’s stall on ten occasions before heading to the Eastern States.
Trap For Fools was sent out as one of the outsiders at $26 in the Mackinnon Stakes but has been installed as the $5 favourite for the Kingston Town Classic at Ladbrokes.com.au.
