Australia’s number one ‘Lady Trainer’ Gai Waterhouse will be chasing a fifth win in the $2m The Star Gold Coast Magic Millions 2yo Classic (1200m) at the Gold Coast on Saturday with Unite And Conquer and Czarson in the final field of sixteen plus five emergencies.
Waterhouse along with training partner Adrian Bott will saddle up two top chances with the two unbeaten colts and a win by either youngster will take Waterhouse’s winning tally to five to add to her four wins in the Magic Millions 2yo Classic before she teamed up with Bott.
Waterhouse has won the Magic Millions 2yo Classic on four previous occasions in her own right with wins by Assertive Lad (2000), Excellerator (2001), Dance Hero (2004) and Driefontein (2012).
Unite And Conquer is undefeated from two race starts and at the beginning of Magic Millions week, the Hinchinbrook colt is marked as the $4.80 favourite for the Magic Millions 2yo Classic at Ladbrokes.com.au.
On the second line of betting at $5 is the last Saturday’s Gold Coast winner Exhilarates and the favourites stablemate Czarson just ahead of the Darren Weir trained Yes Yes Yes at $5.50 and Dubious at $8.
Unite And Conquer debuted during the 2018 Melbourne Spring Carnival with a win down the Flemington straight in the Listed $120,000 Maribyrnong Trial Stakes (1000m) on October 6 and then after a short break stamped his Magic Millions 2yo Classic credentials with an all the way win in the $200,000 Magic Millions Wyong 2yo Classic (1100m) at Wyong on December 12.
Unite And Conquer has had a barrier trial in his lead up to the Magic Millions 2yo Classic and finished second to stablemate and Saturday’s rival Czarson in a 807m trial at Warwick Farm on December 27.
Czarson is also a winner of his only two race starts with success in a 1000m Gosford 2yo Maiden on November 24 following by a win in a 1200m 2yo Handicap at Rosehill December 8 and Waterhouse is delighted with the progress of both colts.
“They are just two lovely, unassuming, uncomplicated horses that will run exceedingly well,” Waterhouse told The Courier-Mail.
“Unite And Conquer is a bigger, solid colt. The other one Czarson has done a treat. He beat him in his last trial.
“They have both done exceedingly well since coming to Queensland (a week ago) and I am very pleased with them.”
Adam Hyeronimus steered Unite And Conquer to victory at Wyong and has been rewarded with the ride in the Magic Millions 2yo Classic while Tim Clark has retained the ride on Czarson.
The Godolphin royal blue colours will appear in the Magic Millions 2yo Classic for the first time with James Cummings to saddle up last Saturday’s Gold Coast winner Exhilarates with Kerrin McEvoy to ride while the Peter and Paul Snowden trained Hightail will also be backing up in the week after winning on the Kensington track at Randwick last Saturday.
Team Snowden will be hoping to have two runners in the Magic Millions 2yo Classic with Rome relagated to third emergency.
The Lindsay Park Team of David and Ben Hayes and Tom Dabernig will have three runners in the Magic Millions 2yo Classic with Sebrakate (Regan Bayliss), Champagne Boom (Craig Williams) and Movie Role (James McDonald) while the Kelly Schweida trained The Odyssey at $34 will be flying the flag for the locals with James Orman in the saddle.
The barrier draw for the 2019 Magic Millions 2yo Classic will be conducted on the Surfers Paradise Beach on Tuesday morning.
