A change of plans has seen Blue Diamond Stakes winner Written By a surprise acceptor in the Group 3 $175,000 Café Culture + Insitu Pago Pago Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill on Saturday.
Written By was a brilliant winner of the Group 1 $1.5m Ladbrokes Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on February 24 and trainer Grahame Begg had initially intended to go into the Group 1 $3.5m Longines Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill on Saturday week without another run.
Begg was looking to trial Written By at Randwick on Tuesday but because of the rain, the trials were transferred from the Kensington track to the Steeple grass and Begg then decide to send the Written Tycoon colt around in the Pago Pago Stakes this weekend.
“With the fickle weather coming into play, the trials were moved from the Kensington track to the Steeple grass which is a totally unacceptable surface,” Begg posted on Twitter.
“The decision has been made for Written By to take his place in the Pago Pago Stakes this Saturday.”
Written By has drawn nicely at barrier four in the fourteen horse Pago Pago Stakes field and will be ridden again by Blue Diamond Stakes winning jockey Jordan Childs.
Bookies at Ladbrokes.com.au have installed Written By as the $1.95 favourite with his nearest rival in the betting being the Peter and Paul Snowden trained Spin at $6.
Spin is yet to win a race from three outings but was narrowly beaten last start by Santos in the Group 2 $200,000 Schweppes Skyline Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on March 3.
Kerrin McEvoy gets the ride again on Spin who will jump from barrier two with the blinkers on for the first time.
Team Snowden will also saddle up Legislation for Corey Brown from barrier one and Chabreet from barrier five with Josh Par in the saddle.
