Rising three year old Yes Yes Yes cold be a surprise contender for a slot in the 2019 $14m The Everest (1200m) at Randwick on October 19.
Yes Yes Yes is part owned by Coolmore who is yet to lock in a runner for its Everest slot and if the Chris Waller trained colt can live up to his early hype, he could muscle in on some of his older rivals.
Tom Magnier of Coolmore Australia said that July Cup winner Ten Sovereigns was a front runner to travel down to Australia to fill Coolmore’s Everest slot after his win at Newmarket in England, but hadn’t ruled out the possibility of the promising Yes Yes Yes getting the nod.
“We’ve got horses here like Yes Yes Yes with Chris Waller, we are talking with (trainer) Wesley Ward in America but we’ll put Ten Sovereigns into the mix,’’ Magnier told Big Sports Breakfast Weekend.
“To have a chance to bring Ten Sovereigns down here would be amazing but if a horse like Yes Yes Yes comes back in good shape, that will be exciting too.”
The lightly raced Yes Yes Yes had five starts during his two year old season for three wins and raced into Golden Slipper contention with a win in the Group 2 $300,000 UNSW Todman Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on March 9.
The Rubick colt’s chances to win the richest the two year old race in the world was blown out of the window at the barrier draw after drawing the outside gate in the sixteen horse field for the Group 1 $3.5m Longines Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill on March 23.
Yes Yes Yes was always near the tail of the pack before passing half of the field to finish seventh to the James Cummings trained front runner Kiamichi.
Waller has Yes Yes Yes back on the track in the early stages of his 2019 Spring Carnival campaign and jockey James McDonald reported this morning that the colt is coming along nicely.
“Very pleasing,” McDonald said.
“He is a very happy horse, so relaxed in his work and moving really freely so couldn’t be more pleasing.”
Yes Yes Yes’s first major Spring Carnival goal will be the Group 1 $1m Golden Rose Stakes (1400m) at Rosehill on September 28 and betting at Ladbrokes.com.au has the colt sharing the second line at $11 with Champagne Stakes winner Castlevecchio.
The Team Hawkes trained Exceedance has been installed as the $8 Golden Rose favourite and is expecting to improve drastically on his last start third in an 1100m two year old Handicap at Rosehill on June 1.
Early betting for The Everest has the Anthony Freedman trained Santa Ana Lane marked as the $6 favourite while Yes Yes Yes is rated a $51 chance.
